The Nine-Week Breakdown
The program is broken down into three main parts. The first part is the coding education where participants learn how to code. The second part is the building of the program with the participants' team. Finally, the third part is where the participants' team will construct and present a pitch for their program. Between every part of the program, there will be a whole cohort call and workshop for all participants to join and learn more about what's coming up for them.
Coding Education (Weeks 1-3)
For the Coding Education part of the program, the My STEM Project team will be providing learning resources for participants to learn how to code. They will be tasked with coding activities to complete and show their understanding of the topic. Multiple learning opportunities will be provided to each participant.
Teamwork (Weeks 4-7)
In the second part of the program, every participant will hand code a computer program by collaborating amongst their team members. Here, participants will have biweekly meetings with the mentors and can also request to meet with a mentor whenever they may be at a coding block.
Pitch (Weeks 8-9)
In the last part of the program, participants will work with their team to develop a pitch for the program they coded. We will provide materials and guidance for the teams when creating their pitches. At the end of the six weeks, the teams will present their pitches live to the whole cohort.
The Weekly Breakdown
For every week of the program, there will be a group call with the two facilitators and two teams. In each group call, the facilitators will have an activity for the group to do in addition to answering any questions or helping with any problems the teams may be experiencing. Furthermore, there will be at least one assignment posted every week for the participants to complete, either on their own or with their team. These will be further explained and specified when in the actual program. There may be additional activities included, depending on what week the participant is in.
